Driver Services - 2011: 690 Volunteers 29,702 Volunteer Hours

RSVP of Dane County Drivers: It’s More Than Just a Ride!

What is Driver Services?

Driver Escort:

RSVP’s Driver Escort Service responds to the transportation needs of Dane County’s older adult residents (60 years and older) who do not have access to other transportation resources such as bus, van, family and friends. The service is provided by volunteers from the local community/area who use their own vehicle to drive and escort passengers.

Home Delivered Meal Drivers:

We also have a continual need for Home Delivered Meal Drivers in the following communities/areas of Dane County: Fitchburg, Middleton, NW Dane, Waunakee, DeForest, Sun Prairie, Verona, Belleville, Mt. Horeb, Oregon, Stoughton, and McFarland. Volunteers work through their local Senior Center/Outreach Office. They pick up and deliver meals to older adults who are unable to cook their own meals.

NEV Home Delivered Meal Drivers:

We’ve also started a Pilot Program with the use of Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) in three communities in Dane County, which includes Verona, Mt Horeb and De Forest. We currently have NEVs operating for meal deliveries in Mt. Horeb and Verona. RSVP and/or the Senior Centers/Outreach Offices have purchased and/or leased the NEVs, designed to deliver home delivered meals to older adults within their own community. The NEVs are stationed at the local Senior Centers/Outreach Offices and are designed to increase the quality of life to older adults, save valuable resources and help save the environment.

Meals on 2 Wheels:

RSVP works with the Middleton Senior Center on the Mo2W's Program. Volunteers use bikes and trailers through the Middleton Senior Center to deliver local home delivered meals. This program promotes going green as well as physical fitness. Those interested in exploring the use of Mo2W's in Middleton can call Joy Schmidt, at 608 831-2373, or email her at jschmidt@ci.middleton.wi.us.

Vets Helping Vets:

In 2011, RSVP started a new program called Vets Helping Vets (VHV). RSVP was fortunate to receive a grant from the Madison Community Foundation to expand the Driver Escort Program and reach out to veterans who need transportation. We are seeking veterans throughout Dane County to drive and escort ambulatory veteran passengers.

For information on Driver Services programs, contact Gene Kundert, at 608 441-7896. Or, fill out the online request form which you will find here.
