Tutoring - 2012: 245 Volunteers 11,337 Volunteer Hours

Tutors

Tutors work with children, in kindergarten through 12th grade, in schools throughout Dane County.  Volunteer tutors can work with small groups of students or one-on-one assisting with reading, math or other subjects directed by the teacher.  As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to share the excitement and joy of helping a child succeed.   Tutors assist in creating a learning environment for students that promotes positive self-esteem, confident and independence.  Tutors generally volunteer one to two hours per week.

RSVP tutors in Madison, Sun Prairie and Middleton Schools are supported by the Schools of Hope Project. The Schools of Hope Project provides AmeriCorps members who serve as School Volunteer Coordinators and provide ongoing support, training and recognition for all reading and math volunteers.

Classroom Helpers

RSVP Classroom helpers assist the teacher in the classroom by doing variety of tasks once or twice a week.  Most often teachers request volunteers to help students with reading, math or a special project.  Volunteers may also be asked to sort or shelve books, prepare materials or put up a bulletin board.

For more information on tutors and classroom helpers, contact Paul Reif, at 608 661-4271. Or, fill out the online request form which you will find here.
